   Permanent activities on foodborne parasites

      Diagnostic methods along with standard operation protocols (SOPs) were established in the laboratory to meet international standards (OIE and WHO).

The laboratories possess expertise in the following:

- Serological diagnosis for Clonorchis sinensis, Toxoplasma, Cryptosporidium, Trichinella

-Molecular typing for Clonorchis sinensis, Toxoplasma, Cryptosporidium, Trichinella

-Isolation and typing (trace back) of Trichinella spiralis, Clonorchis sinensis, Toxoplasma and Cryptopsoridium from meat, fish, shellfish and water.

Species identification of Trichinella coming from China and other part of Asia as all the standard species of Trichinella are available in the depository of Jilin University, such depository should be shared with other partners of the network.

-Development and validation of new serological diagnostic tests for Trichinella spiralis, Clonorchis sinensis, Toxoplasma and Cryptopsoridium based on recombinant antigens. A serological commercial kit based on recombinant antigens and E/S antigens of Trichinella has been set up by the institute of zoonoses and applified for China national epidemiological survey for human important parasites in from 2001 to 2005.

-Development of specific molecular tools for Trichinella spiralis (20 000 nucleodtic sequences are registered in gene bank), and Clonorchis sinensis genotyping.

-Molecular typing and characterization of Toxoplasma gondii and Cryptosporidium.

-Production of anti-sera against Trichinella spiralis, Clonorchis sinensis, Toxoplasma and Cryptosporidium.

-Experiments on pigs (protection assays and reference material production for Trichinella spiralis, Clonorchis sinensis, Toxoplasma and Cryptopsoridium infections) in BSL2.

-Trichinella spiralis, Clonorchis sinensis, Toxoplasma and Cryptopsoridium epidemiological studies in China.
