Vector Parasite Research Laboratory

Academic leader: Professor Zhu Guan

Team members:Professor Yin Jigang,Associate Professor Guo Fengguang, Senior Experimenter Lu Huijun

The vector parasite research laboratory is now headed by Professor Zhu Guan, a distinguished professor of Jilin University and a long-term project expert of the 13th national Thousand Talents Program. It is mainly engaged in original research on parasite biology and biochemistry, focusing on interdisciplinary exploration of anti-parasites drug targets and evolution. It has led the country in the research of cryptosporidium biochemical metabolism.

There are 2 professors and 2 doctoral supervisors in the research laboratory. It has a total of more than 20 national, provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects including the projects of National 973 Program, the National Outstanding Youth Fund, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s international and regional cooperation, and the Thirteenth Five-Year National Key R&D Program with a total funding of more than 15 million RMB. More than 20 research papers have been published in international mainstream journals such as Nature communication and Journal of infectious diseases. 15 doctoral students and 30 master students have been trained. It has won 1 Science and Technology Award of Jilin Province and 6 authorized patents.

The research laboratory mainly carries out the epidemiology, pathogenic biology and immunology research of parasitic diseases (including malaria, schistosomiasis, eperythrozoonosis, cryptosporidiosis, etc.) transmitted by vectors and water sources. On the basis of determining the prevalence of important vector parasitic diseases, reveal its main pathogenic mechanism, and lay the foundation for formulating effective control measures.

Research content:

1. Malaria epidemiology and molecular pathogenesis

2. Schistosoma japonicum genome and transcriptomics and pathogenic mechanism

3. The transmission law and pathogenic biology of zoonotic cryptosporidiosis

4. Epidemiology and pathogenic biology of eperythrozoonosis

5. Epidemiology of toxoplasmosis.
