Academic Meeting with the Theme of Study on the Prevalence and Spread of Important Food-borne Pathogenic Microorganisms in Cattle and Sheep Breeding, Slaughter and Milk Production was Successfully Held in College of Veterinary Medicine

On the morning of June 22, 2019, internal academic meeting with the theme of Study on the Prevalence and Spread of Important Food-borne Pathogenic Microorganisms in Cattle and Sheep Breeding, Slaughter and Milk Production was successfully held in the library of Jilin University Heping Campus. The study was under Thirteenth Five-Year national key research and development program Study on the Risk Monitoring and Prevention and Control Technology of Important Zoonotic Food-borne Pathogenic Microorganisms in the Process of Animal Breeding and Slaughter. This meeting was hosted by Professor Liu Zengshan from College of Veterinary Medicine /Zoonosis Institute of Jilin University. Professor Liu Mingyuan, Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Zhang Yanming, Associate Professor Jiang Yanfen, Associate Professor Guo Kangkang and their team from the School of Animal Medicine of Northwest A&F University , Professor Yao Gang, Associate Professor Liu Yingyu, Associate Professor Su Zhanqiang and their team from Xinjiang Agricultural University, Professor Tang Junni and Professor Zhao Yanying from Southwest  Minzu  University, Professor Zhang Xuehan from Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Lu Shiying, Professor Gu Jingmin, Professor Ren Honglin, Hu Pan, Jilin University Associate Professor and Lecturer Li Yansong, Director Li Zhaohui of the Research Office of the Institute of Zoonosis of Jilin University, and all graduate students of the Zoonotic Bacteria Research Office attended the meeting.

The study is led by Professor Liu Zengshan. It brings together the superior units of 5 universities and research institutes in different regions of the country to carry out monitoring and analysis of important food-borne pathogens and their pathogenic factors in the main production areas of cattle, sheep and milk. It conducts traceability analysis on epidemic and spreading laws, therefore providing scientific basis and guiding suggestions for the healthy and efficient breeding of cattle and sheep in China. The project has a contract funding of 2.14 million RMB and an implementation period of 3 years. The Jilin University team composed of professors Liu Zengshan, Lu Shiying, and Gu Jingmin is mainly responsible for the task of Study on the prevalence and spread of Listeria monocytogenes/Staphylococcus aureus phage in cattle and sheep breeding, slaughter and milk production.

At the meeting, Professor Liu Mingyuan, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine of Jilin University, extended welcome to the experts and said that Jilin University would fully cooperate with the project implementation to ensure the completion of the project. Exchanges and discussions were conducted under the auspices of Professor Zhang Yanming. Researchers Zhang Xuehan, Professor Tang Junni, Associate Professor Liu Yingyu, Associate Professor Jiang Yanfen, Professor Gu Jingmin, and Professor Liu Zengshan respectively representing various task-bearing units exchanged ideas on the research tasks and indicators, research progress and problems. The problem was reported, and full exchanges and discussions were conducted with the experts and teachers participating in the meeting. Professor Liu Zengshan summarized the progress of the project, the results achieved, the existing common problems.

Finally, the scientific research teams visited the Bacterial Disease Laboratory of the Institute of Zoonosis, Jilin University. They hoped to further strengthen academic communication and promote academic exchanges. The conference provided guidance for the healthy and efficient breeding of cattle and sheep in China and for the risk monitoring and prevention and control measures of important pathogenic bacteria in animal-derived foods. It has provided a guarantee for the smooth implementation of the subject.
